Phosphoric Acid

Phosphoric Acid - H3PO4

Phosphoric Acid or also known as the orthophosphric acid is used for many reasons for an example this particular acid is deliberately added to soft drinks to give them a sharper flavor. This Acid also slows the growth of molds, and bacteria.  Many people believe that this acid can get quite addictive because of the tastes. The Phosphoric Acid is a colorless, odorless substance and can also be used in fertilizers, and detergents also in foods. Daily Products such as buttermilk, cottage cheese, and non-daily coffee creamers and contain the Phosphoric Acid.

Lighting Up Fireworks

Sophia Nicholaou

Barium Oxide - BaO is a binary compound because it contains two elements.

We see this compound every year the 4th of July.  This compound is what makes up the color blazing white in fireworks.  They usually require oxygen to fuel the fire created and in order to bind it.  How this process works is when a metal is heated up different color frequencies are hit producing that color.  To produce this color white - hot metals, such as magnesium and aluminum, are used.  Creating fireworks is very complex and requires physical science.  Incandescence and luminescence are used in the color production.  Incandescence is the light produced from heat.  Luminescence is light produced using a different energy source other than heat.

Phosphoric acid

Labe, Katie

Phosphoric acid formula is H₃PO₄ and used in everyday life.

It is a very controversial acid because it can lead to many health problems. Phosphoric acid is put in carbonated soft drinks, mostly coke. It gives the pop the sour taste that everyone loves. Phosphoric acid is also used in the removal of rust. It turns the rusted iron into a black ferric phosphate that eventually will rub off. It is even used in the medical field. Before putting on braces orthodontists use phosphoric acid to help them clean and roughen up the surface. Dentists unite zinc powder and phosphoric acid to make a substance that creates a impermanent cement like surface on the teeth.

Waheed, Usman - Hydrochloric Acid

Hydrochloric Acid- HCl

Hydrochloric Acid is a clear, colorless, acid. Like other acid, when dissolved in water, it produces Hydrogen ions. In an aqueous Hydrochloric acid, the H+ joins a water molecule to form a Hydronium ion, otherwise known as H3O+. Hydrochloric Acid, unlike others, is highly corrosive, and is very strong; contributing to many uses. Hydrochloric Acid actually can be used in small applications as well. Although it is poisonous, it can be used to remove stubborn rust stains, cleaning floors, production of some foods, descaling, leather processing and believe it or not, in digestion! This acid actually contributes to the proper digestion, absorption, and utilization of foods, to nourish cells, tissues and organs. However, levels of this actually decreases as we age. Thus, Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) contributes to many worldly applications.
